Hello, Beloiters! One week of classes followed by a long weekend — not a bad start to the semester.

We hope you enjoyed being with your (new) friends, participated in campus activities like the the football season opener (which ended with Beloit’s victory), the BSG Bash, or maybe rented a canoe at the Buccaneer Boathouse. And there’s always next weekend. Now, time to buckle down for week two of classes.

Impact Beloit launches a Concierge Internship Pilot program

Impact Beloit, the college’s initiative that ensures that everything we do at the college – all the exploration and discovery in and out of the classroom – directs you toward a fulfilling career and meaningful life, has an opportunity for three high-achieving seniors or juniors: the Concierge Internship Program.

Three Beloit area companies have agreed to offer a market-rate ($18-20/hour),10-hour/week internship for the entire academic year that will be supervised by Impact Beloit Executive Director Tim Leslie and another Beloit College alum. The internship also could include course credit.

These positions are designed to help you gain valuable experience and make important connections in the business world (whether you decide to pursue this particular field or a different one) — get a foot in the door that will set you on a successful path. The application deadline is this Friday, Sept. 8.

Rebeca Galindo’25 and Kitana Gulotta’25 interned with Wisconsin State Senator Mark Spreitzer’09 (D-15th Senate district) this summer. Among their duties, Rebeca and Kitana attended legislative hearings, wrote letters to constituents, and did research on various issues.

A permanent exhibit at Chicago’s Field Museum breaks new ground in how Native American stories are told and who tells them. Three Beloiters—Tom Skwerski’87, Jamie Kelly’96, and Emily Starck’14—played key roles in creating it.

The Global Experience Office wants your study abroad pictures to turn into a GEO postcard. Submissions are due Sept. 19 and voting takes place during the Study Abroad Fair on Sept. 21.
